New Feature Launched to Protect From Emails Storm in Microsoft Office 365

Microsoft announced the new updates to prevent Microsoft Office 365 or Exchange online users from emails storm and roll out the new “Reply All” option.

Use of Reply All Emails Storm

Reply Apocalypse or Reply All tab is usually useful when you are required to mail the same thing to the group of persons. But at the same time, this option can also become hectic for the members of email clients when the reply is for a particular member of the email group.

In the impact of this option, the unwanted traffic will generate on the email server which may crash due to this reason. There may be some users or members of the email group who have mistakenly use this option but because of this other members of the same group feel irritation of these replies.

Events Occurred Due to “Reply All” Option

The first event occurred within Microsoft itself when one employee of Microsoft asked to be removed from the distribution list, in replying to other users or members of the group write Me Too. This causes a massive email storm and creates 15 million emails in about an hour and instantly generates 195 GB traffic on the email server. This event noted as “Me Too!” event of reply all option.

The second event occurred when the U.S. Department of Homeland Security creates an email storm with more than 2.2 million email messages which disclose the names of various security professionals of multiple departments.

The most recent emails storm event occurred in August 2016, when in the internal email server of the New York Times strikes with the same issue. A member of the distribution list accidentally uses the reply all option with a message for asking to remove him from the list. Then, suddenly other members of the same group also asking for the same.

How the New Feature Helps Users to Prevent Emails Storm?

Now, Microsoft figures out the problem of emails storm and adds the new feature in the option. With the use of these new features, members of the email client group can block emails storm for the next 4 hours.

Microsoft said that the first edition is launched and tried by Microsoft itself. This feature of the Reply All option helps the server to prevent unwanted traffic on any email. Members of MS Office 365 enjoy this feature and get complete advantage of the newly added features.

The features also provide options to their members for relying on all required reports and instant notification for the administrator of the group. This makes an option for the administrator to keep an eye on the working process of the email server.
